Introduction

Machines

Machines are generally the first thing in a 4.0 production facility whose performance is sought to be monitored. For this reason, they are a fundamental concept of the application.

In and of themselves, machines in the K2 application are simply a representation of your production equipements. However, using other concepts of the application, mainly the rules engine and variables, you can collect events for a machine, such as Machine State events and Part events, which will give you insights on how productive your machines really are.

You can also define stop causes for a specific machine, so that when your machine stops producing, the operator will be able to choose which one of the stop causes is responsible for the downtime.

In the next section, we will be looking at Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), which is the ultimate Industry 4.0 measurement for how productive a system is and how it relates to your machines, as defined in the application.
